Hyundai Getz Review
Hyundai December 24th, 2008

Since the introduction of the popular Hyundai Getz at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002, over 600 000 units have been sold world-wide. My daughter-in-law bought the previous 1.3 model on my recommendation in 2004 and is still happy with her car. The engine is still sound, not a rust mark in sight - the only problem is a slight leak at the back door when it rains.
The Hyundai Getz is an all-out supermini. The Getz doesn’t deliver the smoothest ride or the most powerful, but it does deliver a fairly brisk ride and offers a five-year warranty that will factor into the car’s value for money equation.
The Getz is Hyundai’s first try at developing a supermini to compete with rival brands. The car is taller than most rivals and a little shorter. The car’s cabin is easily accessible thanks to the tall seating position.
The Hyundai Getz front seats are very comfortable with plenty of head and legroom, but rear seats don’t fair as well and legroom is limited. Rear seats are less comfortable despite the fact that they adjust for rake and feature a split/fold design.
The Getz is a terrific first effort on the part of Hundai but the car is lacking in many areas. The car lacks mechanical refinement, delivers a less than comfortable ride and delivers poor fuel economy. All is not lost however; the company backs the Getz with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. This brings the risk to the buyer down to very minimal.
Hyundai also offers a spare alloy wheel under the load mat. The Getz offers good money for value and the five-year warranty makes the car almost risk-free. Buyers who take a closer look will appreciate the value for money that the Getz represents. Even higher specification models present good value for money and might be worth the little bit of extra expense in order to get air conditioning and other creature comforts.
The Getz offers a lot for the price and is competitively priced with other superminis. Insurance costs will be low and the car’s five year warranty will bring buyers even more peace of mind.
Hyundai Getz cabin space is limited due to the car’s small size. Front seat passengers will enjoy more space and have better legroom than rear seat passengers. The car’s boot is a decent size but is limited on what it can hold.
